Nearly all drives are suddenly having error state/ unmountable errors

Featured Replies

I am using Unraid 6.12.8. Without warning, I began noticing weird bugs with my docker containers ( i couldn't access the console and some containers would randomly stop). I rebooted only to discover my Disk 2 was in an error state (it wasn't previous to the reboot) and my Disk 4 was still valid but it said it was unmountable due to a bad or missing file system. I used xfs_repair to fix the Disk 4 and it does work after that but rebooting puts it right back at that state. As for disk 2, I did a preclear on it and it completed with no errors, so I assumed it was just some weird data corruption or something. I re-added the newly precleared disk to the disk 2 slot and it seemed to work fine and begin the data-rebuild process. However, once I started the array, disk 3 got put in an error state. So it seems like something is keeping all my drives from working at once.

My first thought was perhaps this is a power supply issue because I had recently added a new drive to the array but this was over a month ago and everything ran flawlessly up until now. I also opened up the case and made sure all the connections were secure and they were.  Any help will be appreciated. I'm somewhat of a noob and haven't been doing this very long so forgive me if I made any amatuer mistakes during the troubleshooting of this. I'll attach my syslog and diagnostics

Check/replace cables for disk4 and post new diags

  • Author

Not sure if this was a good idea but I also mixed and matched all the other cables on the other drives to see if there was any change whatsoever. There was not.

ATA errors are gone for now, but you cannot rebuild disk2 since there are two invalid disks with single parity, if parity is still valid you can try to force enable disk3 and rebuild disk2:

-Tools -> New Config -> Retain current configuration: All -> Apply
-Check all assignments and assign any missing disk(s) if needed
-IMPORTANT - Check both "parity is already valid" and "maintenance mode" and start the array (note that the GUI will still show that data on parity disk(s) will be overwritten, this is normal as it doesn't account for the checkbox, but it won't be as long as it's checked)
-Stop array
-Unassign disk2
-Start array (in normal mode now) and post new diags.

It's a good sign that the emulated disk2 is mounting, as for disk4, check filesystem, run it without -n and if it asks for it use -L.
