Unraid not functional after installation of multiple slackware packages

Featured Replies

Hello, I installed a bunch of slackware packages this afternoon by placing them into the /boot/extra directory. I've attached the images below. After installation my unraid instance would only boot into safe mode. I assumed one of these were the problem so I deleted almost all of them. This did nothing to fix the issue. I made a new usb and it boots fine, the only issue is that my last backup was very outdated so I would love to save my usb if possible. I am getting random errors as seen in the syslog attached. Any advice on how to salvage this? I am reliant on my server for daily use and really need to get this sorted. Both diagnostic folders below were from when I was trying to boot after installing the packages.

Does the server still boot in Safe Mode?

If so then one of the plugins you have installed (or anything left in the /boot/extra folder) is the likely culprit.  Unfortunately sorting out exactly which one is going to be a trial and error exercise of disabling some and then rebooting.   You can disable any particular plugin by renaming its .plg file to have a different extensions and then rebooting.  Reversing the process will re-enable them.   You should probably start by disabling any you know load new binaries that could replace the standard Unraid versions (e.g. NerdTools, Python3) as these are most likely to interfere with Unraid operation.

You could also see if a fresh install on another flash drive (no licence needed) will boot.  This would show if there is something inherently wrong or whether it could also be something in the config level.

I would also take the opportunity to make a copy of the flash drive while you can to make sure you have a backup if needed.

Thanks for the reply. I have removed all files from the boot/extra directory and still have the same issue. Should I start removing files from the config/plugins folder also?

.safe mode and new flash drive both work.

Rather than remove files I would suggest renaming the .plg files to disable any specific plugin and rebooting as mentioned earlier.  That way if you re-enable the plugin your previous settings remain intact.

So it turns out, unraid does not work well with a lot of plugins. To fix the issue I removed both the vm_manager app and the plugins and it booted up fine. I re-installed a majority of the plugins again to try and find the cluprit without any luck. It will boot with the plugins installed but I have to reboot it once before the GUI will work. Marking this as solved as the original issue is now fixed.
