Catchlight Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Hi All, Thanks in advance for any help, it is Most appreciated. I have the pro version of unraid and I love it! I currently have 6 drives plus a cache drive and everything seems to be working perfectly. However, I have noticed that disc 5, a 1tb drive is not being written to at all. It is completely empty with no shares or folders on the disc. It shows as "ok- good array disc" but it has not been written to at all and I have several 2tb drives that have fallen below 1tb so it should be filling up no? I ran a smart report but nothing jumped out at me although I cannot much sense out of it. Any thoughts? Thanks, Don
Catchlight Posted December 22, 2011 Author Posted December 22, 2011 Sorry I forgot to include that I am running ver 4.7 and I can see my syslog but do not know the appropriate way to share it. It is rather long and I dont think you want me to cut and paste such a long log. Thanks again, Don
Catchlight Posted December 22, 2011 Author Posted December 22, 2011 Once again, sorry for being a noob, but here is the log file. Im sorry I didnt figure all this out before my first post. Thanks once more, ( i know.... ) Don syslog-2011-12-21.txt
Queball Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 If your allocation method under Share settings is set to "high-water" take a look at this wiki entry explaining how writes are allocated under that method. It may explain what is going on and that it is working as expected. Its late so I may be wrong...just a thought. http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=Un-Official_UnRAID_Manual#High_Water
Catchlight Posted December 22, 2011 Author Posted December 22, 2011 Thanks Queball, I do have one 2tb hd that is down to 1.16 tb of free space. Maybe my 1tb hd will kick in when that hd falls below 1tb. Its the only one above 1 tb left out of all 5.
lionelhutz Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Thanks Queball, I do have one 2tb hd that is down to 1.16 tb of free space. Maybe my 1tb hd will kick in when that hd falls below 1tb. Its the only one above 1 tb left out of all 5. No likely. If you are using high water and have a 2T drive as the largest size then there will be a pass that fills all drives to <1T empty and then there will be a second pass that fills all drives until <500gig free. Your 1T disk5 likely won't start to fill until disk1 to disk3 are <500gig free. Of course, the above is just a possibility. This question can't be answered since you didn't provide your share settings and disk sizes. Peter
Catchlight Posted December 25, 2011 Author Posted December 25, 2011 Here are the hard drives I am using. I hope this is in a useable format. As for the settings, they are all set at "high water" and the min space setting is at 20000000. parity sdg WD 2T 6308 985,705 1,052,816 2T 22C — sm hd sy sh disk1 sdi Seagate 750G AVK2 1,152 372 750G 37% 475G * — sm hd sy sh disk2 sde WD 2T 9479 2,989 153 2T 78% 449G 22C — sm hd sy sh disk3 sdh Seagate 1.5T 1MMC 216,336 204,640 1.5T 67% 495G * — sm hd sy sh disk4 sdd WD 2T 3769 392,080 377,999 2T 61% 789G 24C sm hd sy sh disk5 sdf WD 1T 4265 66 35 1T Empty 1T 23C sm hd sy sh disk6 sdb WD 2T 4810 763,430 735,268 2T 51% 1T 23C sm hd sy sh Total 9.25T 54.5% 4.21T Up Dn Smb Sy flash sda Unknown 4G 2406 2,548 41 4G 10% 3G sm hd sy sh cache sdc Seagate 500G 5ATZ 1,630,997 1,587,806 500G Empty 500G * — sm hd sy sh Thanks again for any help. lionelhutz Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 I'd say that disk4 has to get below 500gig before disk5 will be used. Read the high water discription in the Wiki and it should make sense.
Catchlight Posted December 27, 2011 Author Posted December 27, 2011 Okay Guys, thanks for all your help. I appreciate your timely responses. Don
