Accidentally ran "chmod -R 744 /" for 1-2 seconds

Featured Replies

Hi all

As stated in the title I accidentally ran "chmod -R 744 /" in the CLI for 1-2 seconds. Is there any way to fix this without having to redo everything?
Symptoms started to show that I cannot access a share from Windows anymore.

Not sure if the "Tool -> New Permission" can fix this

And yes I know. Always check what's being entered and make sue you know what you are doing. That doesn't help with "fat finger syndrome" where you hit enter instead of backspace

If I have to reinstall everything, what is my best course of action?
I have some docker containers and plugins installed that I don't really want to redo all over again.

Thanks for helping a dummy like me.

OS Version is: 6.12.10

The first thing todo would be to reboot as that would cause Unraid to be loaded back into RAM from the archives on the flash drive and thus set all standard Unraid system files back to the correct values.   After that you can look into resetting permissions on data files, and for that the New Permissions tool would be a good start.

Hi itimpi

Thanks for the tip.
After rebooting I ran "Tools -> New Permissions" with the option for shares except appdata

Hoping this fixes my mistake.

Thanks again.

There might still be some issues remaining for docker containers under the ‘appdata’ share as some containers require their own specific permissions that would be set up as part of the docker installation.

If I notice any issues I'll redo that specific container.

Thanks again for the quick reply and massive help.
