ericup
Hello, I am relatively new to unraid. My drive parity 2 has 2808 errors on the main tab. I don't really know what this specifically means. I know it is failing but by smart data it is less than a year old. Did I just lose the lottery on a refurb drive? I know enough to know it needs replaced quickly but any advice would be appreciated both to make the swap smoother and to prevent this in the future. Quote Link to comment
itimpi
The Short test is not really any indication of a drives health. You need to do the extended test instead and only if that passes is the drive normally OK. Note that it is possible to get errors for reasons other than a drive failing (e.g. cabling, power) so you should post your system's diagnostics zip file in your next post in this thread to get more informed feedback. It is always a good idea to post this if your question might involve us seeing how you have things set up or to look at recent logs. Quote Link to comment
ericup
Sorry, I wasn't sure diagnostics were useful for this type of question or that it was that easy to anonymize. I do have syslog enabled so it might be a touch longer than expected. tower-diagnostics-20240628-1825.zip Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
It's logged as a disk problem, run an extended SMART test. Quote Link to comment
ericup
Attempted to do a extended test. It got to 40% overnight/all day. Meanwhile I got constant updates about the reallocated sector count climbing. It is up to 63000. I rebooted it because plex was acting up. I assume that has something to do with the parity drive failing? Quote Link to comment
ericup
After the reboot the array turned good. 0 errors. Though it still has the Reallocated sector count of now 64000. Numbers growing that fast make me think it's days are numbered. Quote Link to comment
itimpi
Any disk where the reallocated count keeps climbing or gets very large should be replaced. With the number you have I am surprised the disk is still working at all. Quote Link to comment
ericup
I have a refurb drive ordered. It will arrive the second. Any advice for making it a smooth transition on replacing a parity drive? Quote Link to comment
Solution JorgeB Posted July 1 Solution Share Posted July 1 If it's a refurb I do at least an extended SMART test or precelar to confirm it's good. Quote Link to comment
