metalhouse
Hello , I would like to ask a question. My system restarts automatically every once in a while, especially when I use the Windows virtual machine frequently. I suspect that it might be CPU overheating, but I don't know how to check and confirm it. Thank you! system version is 6.12.10, CPU is AMD 12 cores 24 threads, and memory is 64GB. itimpi
Other than saying that spontaneous restarts are nearly always hardware related difficult to guess for certain otherwise. CPU overheating would definitely cause this. Quote Link to comment
metalhouse
"Thanks for your answer. So how can I check and record CPU temperature? I found a plugin called 'Dynamix System Temp' but I couldn't install it. Quote Link to comment

metalhouse
Is there any other tools to find the hardware problems? Quote Link to comment
PetabyteLDA
1 hour ago, metalhouse said: It can't find any drivers. I had the same issue. But I've discovered the right procedure: Press "DETECT" and then SAVE. Only then you can choose the Sensors and click APPLY. Quote Link to comment
metalhouse
I pressed "DETECT" but still "No drivers detected".😟 Quote Link to comment
bmartino1
More info needed. What motherboard/what processor... I'm not sold on a cpu overheat. Computers should run hotter than 85-90C for long periods of time. Optimal: 70-80 when under load and 50-60 when idle... If you thinks its cpu double check thermal paste and reseat heatsinks. you may have to run terminal command manually as you may be missing sensor drivers https://www.redswitches.com/blog/linux-cpu-temperature/#:~:text=You can use the 'watch, temperature readings at regular intervals. -Especail true on AMD ryzen /epyc/threadripper platforms... Open terminal and type sensors sensors For amd ryzen example: k10temp-pci-00c3 Adapter: PCI adapter Tctl: +57.2°C Tdie: +47.2°C This is normal. A Ryzen CPU only reports one temperature value. It doesn't report data about each core. You can then potentail use watchdog / syslog this with a script to monitor temperatures. I recomend user scritps plugin to do some bash logging... the plugin detect essential runs sensors-detect Which goes through a buch of text to pinpoint what you may or may not have sensor wise.
