If you've been following some of the recent topics regarding SATA and Port Multipliers then I have some good news and bad news.

Good news is.

This eSata unit works on the ABIT AB9 PRO with the eSata port.

So far I've tested SAFE50 and SAFE33 and it does indeed show up as two drives in unRaid.

I've tested SPANNING and STRIPING but only for size presentation and it did show up as 1 drive as expected.

My current configuration is sprawled all over the table here so I have not tested other configurations.

Bad News.

With SAFE configurations, Parity Sync is slow.

This is because the two drives are virtual and they share spindles at some point.

I believe with caching this would not be too much of an issue.

Also keep in mind, I am using two old 300 GB drives, so this could have allot to do with it.

With two scrap 300 GB drives

I'm running SAFE50 with a 156GB dirive and a 312GB Parity drive.

My throughpiut on parity sync is approx 23kb/s.

With SAFE33 I had approx 100GB and 450GB

Throughput was nearly the same there too.

I'll have to test s'more.

Bad News

Throughput (as mentioned)

When in SINGLE JBOD Mode, Only 1 drive is detected. I'll have to play with this s'more.

I was hoping it would see the two drives.

I still have to test out how fast this will be as a stripped parity drive.

But first I have to get another data drive ready so I can do some real testing.

Still to come is testing the JMICRON Ports.

Just thought I would post my early tests and stir up some excitement and discussion.

Got JOBD Working, I had to reset everything and remove all partitions on the drives, then reboot.

So it looks as though the DSPRO allows two single drives on the eSata SIL-3124 port.

Smart works with both drives,

Parity Sync with the two drives alone is 48Kb/s.

SMART does not work when the unit is set to join the drives in any manner.

I was unable to get the JMICRON controller to work with the DSPRO.

It detects both drives, but one drive goes offline with an erroir. Could be driver related.

Right now I'm using it in IDE mode, I'll have to try AHCI mode to see how it works.

Stay tuned for more progress.

JMICRON Working on the port multiplier box now.

Must set controller to AHCI.

The only problem now is the single drive on the other port gets errors and is not recognized  *sigh*.

Speed on the JMICRON was a lil less... 38KB/s on the parity sync. Still not too shabby

I'm done for this eve. Looks like I'll be building the machine into the Centurion 590 this weekend.

Weebo, just wanted to tell you that you are a great resource on this forum, and to keep up the good work.  Port multipliers are a frequent thought of mine recently, but I dont' really have money to experiment with stuff.  If I buy, I gotta buy something I know will work.
