DarkP
Hello, Please advise: how to move from one server to another. My old server has 2 hard drives and one ssd as cache. My new server has only new 2 drives. How to move all data, docker containers and VMs? Edited July 30 by DarkP Quote Link to comment
JonathanM
Normally you would move all the drives from the old server to the new. Please describe your setups in more detail. Quote Link to comment

My old server: - standard PC case - 2,5 ssd - two 3,5 hard drives - PC based on Xeon E5-2650 v2. My new server is an used industrial pc with passive cooling based on i5 6500 (I plan to upgrade it to i7 7700), it is faster and more effective, but has only two bays for 2,5 hard drives. That's why I need to transfer all system and data to new drives. Quote Link to comment
JonathanM
The easiest way would be to temporarily put all the old drives in the new system, they don't need to be in the bays as long as you can run SATA and power to them. How are your current drives assigned? Array, pool? How are you planning to assign the 2 permanent drives? Quote Link to comment

Current setup: - 2 HDD's - as array, one for parity, one for data - 1 ssd - pool - cache. Future setup: - 2 HDD's - as array, one for parity, one for data Quote Link to comment

Is there no way for you to add a SSD of some flavor? Empty PCIE slot? M2 slot? Quote Link to comment

Solution JonathanM Posted August 1 Solution Share Posted August 1 3 minutes ago, DarkP said: I need to think it over, what config would you suggest? Your current layout of 2 spinners and one SSD is typical. If you are only using it for bulk storage, you don't need SSD, but if you want to run containers and VM's, it's pretty much a necessity unless you are prepared for a severe drop in performance. 1 Quote Link to comment
