Need Help: Adding SSDs for Running Game Servers

Featured Replies

Hello,

I've set up unRAID with two 2TB IronWolf drives, with one being the parity drive and the other a storage drive. Everything is working well and as expected.

I now want to add an SSD (either a 256GB or 1TB drive, haven't decided yet) to run game servers on (mostly Minecraft servers), though I am a bit unsure how to do so.

How would you suggest I add my SSDs? (I have one Samsung 1TB 870 EVO drive and another Samsung 256GB drive available for this).

My system's info:

  • unRAID version: 6.12.11
  • Two 2TB IronWolf drives (One parity, one storage)
  • No cache drive
  • Possibly want to add another 2TB drive in the future.

Any advice on integrating the SSDs into my setup and ensuring optimal performance for the game servers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

SSDs should be in a pool outside the parity array, such as cache. And appdata, domains, system shares should be moved off the array.

Also what is the reason for moving those shares off the aray? And how and where would I do that?

For better Docker/VM performance, and so array disks can spin down since these files are always open.

I watched it myself, and it helped me better understand how structured systems work and why details really matter. The explanations are clear and easy to follow, which makes learning feel less chaotic. When the video touches on decision-making and evaluating options, it reminded me of how bonus mechanics are explained in detailed guide https://ausscasinosanalyzer.com/au/free-spins-no-deposit/150-dollars, where conditions and limits are clearly broken down. Seeing this kind of structured explanation in different contexts helps build the right mindset. After that, it’s easier to return to the main topic and apply the ideas more confidently.

thanks, it's helpful
