January 27, 201214 yr I'd like to be able to reboot my server remotely but I can't login to anything unless I type root at the command prompt. Is there anyway to bypass this and have it login automatically?

Is there anyway to bypass this and have it login automatically? short answer... no. longer answer, yes, but trust me (and the entire rest of the internet, including ALL the hackers and script kiddies in the world) you don't want what you are asking... as it opens up ALL your network for the entire world to see.
January 28, 201214 yr I second what joe says. If you really need this i would use a locked down intermediary system/vm. A much more complicated and involved method but if done right should be relatively safe. Sent from my SGH-I727R using Tapatalk
January 29, 201214 yr The safest way to do this is using a VPN in the router. This is the only way I would allow remote access. See if you can load dd-WRT on your router or get a Buffalo router.

See if you can load dd-WRT on your router or get a Buffalo router. or load up pfSense in a vmware machine and connect via OpenVPN. More complicated but much safer than the easier to setup pptp servers.
January 29, 201214 yr How about using Hamachi ? It seems pretty stable to me and does not require either clever (or hacked) routers or additional hardware. I using it under unRAID 4.7 for access to the server when I am out of the country.
