August 12, 20241 yr Hi guys, My Unraid server Motherboard has a single Ethernet port which I'm using to connect to my LAN and access the server from elsewhere in the house. Everything has been stable for a long time and yet this afternoon the Ethernet port stopped working suddenly so I'm no longer able to access the server. (I confirmed that it's not my Wall network connection or the network cable at fault). I have extra USB3.0 ports on my motherboard so I'm wondering if I could get some USB to Ethernet adapter to get around this problem... Would that work? If so, what would be a compatible adapter? Appreciate any other suggestions to get me back up.
August 12, 20241 yr USB should work, but if you have an available PCIe slot suggest using that instead.

Is it possible my Ethernet connection got disabled by unraid somehow and can possibly be re-enabled? This went down in the middle of a library scan with the Emby docker. Also is there a way to safely reboot my server as I don't have access to the GUI over the network now? (I plugged in a USB to Ethenet adapter to the running server, but it didn't help it showing up on my LAN. I suspect I need to re-boot?)

I did a hard shutdown, attach an external monitor to the server, attach the network cable to the original motherboard ethernet port and re-started the server in the GUI mode. Once this was up I see "no network activity" on the main page of UNRAID GUI. Attached below is the generated a diagnostic at that point. Is my main Ethernet port really dead? P:S: The USB to Ethernet adapter shows network activity if I connect the network cable to that and do a reboot. darkfleet-diagnostics-20240814-1913.zip
August 15, 20241 yr Solution No link is being detected on the NIC, assuming the cable and switch port are known good, it's likely a NIC problem.
August 15, 20241 yr Author Thanks. Yes I picked up a PCIE Network card at a local store and got my connection back up and running. Had to switch the new network port to "eth0" at the network settings and do a reboot to make it work. USB 2 Ethernet adapter worked OK but found it to be too slow so removed it.
