I moved wrong folder and lost access to unraid

Featured Replies

Please, I make a wrong command and moved the files system to other place.
I can't access the terminal to move again.

- My appdata was in other disk (out array).

- I can still access my VM on RDP....I see the folders, but I don't know how to send them to the right place.

Can you help please?

Hi Braulio,

The easiest way is to recreate your USB drive. Your array will be recognized once you plug the disks into the "new" system without losing the files. The only thing you must ensure is to keep the same drives "positions" - do not switch parity and data files.

Try this command:

pwd

that will show you what the Present Working Directory is.

Next:

cd /

Then the  pwd  again and the return should be:

If you get that, then try the   ls   command.

(By the way, that   mv   command is one of the most dangerous commands in Unix/Linux in that it never gives you a warning about what is going to do.  It was written by the original Unix developers who assumed that anyone who was going  to be using 'their' OS should be as smart and knowledgeable as they were!!!)

@Frank1940@agarkauskas
I restarted the server and it worked again.
I didn't have to do anything.
Maybe the files were not moved from the pendrive due to permissions or maybe only what was in the memory was moved.
Tks for your help

Probably a critical OS folder such as /bin was deleted first and that took down the server before more damage was done.  Rebooting would reload the OS into RAM from the archives on the flash drive thus re-instating /bin.
