Upgrading Parity and 2 Failed Drives

Featured Replies

Here is my setup:

I just purchased 4 new 10tb hdd to put in place. I want to go to 1 parity and 3 data.

Im confused on the order of operations since due to having 2 failed drives.

Do I upgrade the parity first then do the failed data disks? Then I can use Unbalanced to move the other data to the new disks?

Thanks

You'd need to use two for parity, or won't be able to uses 10TB on the array.

You can use the parity swap procedure.

Okay so after I do the parity swap for both drives do I replace the 2 failed drives and rebuild?

Not sure I understand!   If you have done the parity swap procedure it will have upgraded a parity drive to 10TB drive and used the old parity drive to rebuild a disabled drives.

Not sure from your description what your final disk configuration is intended to be?   Are you planning to reduce the total number of drives used?

Note that the red ‘x’ does not necessarily mean a drive has failed.    It just means a write to it failed and more often than not this dues to an external fa tor (e.g. cabling, power).    Running the Extended SMART test is the easiest way to check if a drive really has failed.
