you can ping an unmanaged switch? strange to impossible!

BTW: the most frequent problems with "2.5G not working" is that people forget to switch on Flow Control. 2.5 and 5 cannot work without it. Else many packets are sent in the wrong timeslot and get never received.

I meant I can ping the IP for unraid sorry.

Rename /boot/config/network.cfg to .bak to restore the settings to default DHCP then reboot and post new diags.

I tried this before but for some reason my onboard HDMI port isn't outputting a video signal (it was when I setup unraid), so I can't grab the diags unless I first change the network file back.

I'm not sure if this helps at all? This is what is shown when I swap from my 1gb connection on my old 1gb switch to the 2.5gb connection on my new 2.5gb switch.

I can attach a graphics card to it and do what you asked earlier if it's not possible to help without it, I just have to wait for my parity check to complete in an hour or so. I appreciate the help :)

Not sure what your pic does show us.

You've unplugged the 1G connection, put the cable into the 2,5G switch (perfectly ok and working) and a few mins later you have switched everything back.

Actually does not mean anything besides that the link to the switches are both ok.

btw: with "flow control" i have meant ALL devices. It is not sufficient just to turn it on on UNRAID. Usually  the (managed) switch handles this, but if you have a dumb one, it just forwards the request which needs to be handled by the other side of the connection then. You need to asure that all devices play along with this.

The log will tell you if flow control hits with "...entered blocking state" (resume is signaled by "...entered forwarding state".

BTW2: why does it talk about "bond0" ? You surely do not want or need any bonding.

I've connected the hub to a normal 1gb port on my router (virgin hub 5) and it works, it says 2500mb on unraid too. So it seems like for some reason the hub doesn't want to accept the switch over the 2.5gb port even though it works fine connected to my PC. Hm.

Not an unraid problem though so I'll mark it as solved. Thanks for the replies trying to help guys.

I'm not sure either - just trying to provide whatever I could think of. I'm a noob when it comes to linux. I was mainly showing that because I tried the 2.5gb and it didn't work and thought maybe that might have some info as to why.

I think bonding is on because I had a 1gb network card installed before and removed it because I thought the port on this mobo was dead, but it a different mobo I have so I removed the card and it must have created the bond? I dunno.

Like I said though, I think this is an issue with my hub and not unraid. Thanks again for taking the time to reply :)

"hub"s are ancient devices extincted in the mid 90s.

Only switches are available anymore, and they are either "dumb" (unmanged) or "managed" (can be administered usually with a web interface).

Tell that to my ISP then:

but, even with a working 2,5 connection to that single port of "hub5", you won't see any difference or improvement.

The internet connection is limited to 1G download (DOCSIS3.1 cable), so there is no benefit for using the 2,5 port at all.

Correction: OOOPS! It MAY improve the LAN access to unraid. So 2 clients with 1G could download from UNRAID at full speed (theoretically).
