Moving appdata from array to cache only

Featured Replies

I followed the official guide as per Unraid's documentation to move my appdata folder from Array -> Cache (or was is the other way around?) to cache only. I used the mover and all containers have been working fine since. However, I am not sure what container uses what now.

I have both folders

/mnt/cache/appdata

/mnt/user/appdata

Some containers appear to have automatically changed their docker volumes to /mnt/cache/appdata/... and most have remained on /mnt/user/appdata.

I then checked via CLI whether containers read from one or the other directory. And it appears they read from both at the same time.

My questions now are: Is everything running on my SSDs only and /mnt/user/appdata is just the mounted link to /mnt/cache/appdata? And how can I check whether every container only runs on my SSD pool?

Both paths are different ways of referring to the same files if the whole of the share is on the cache.

If the share is completely on the ‘cache’ pool, and you have exclusive shares enabled under Settings->Global Share Settings then /mnt/user/appdata and /mnt/cache/appdata are equivalent from a performance perspective.

Using /mnt/user/appdata is more flexible in case you ever want to later change share settings so not all of the share is in the ‘cache’ pool.

Thanks very much for the explanation. That's what I guessed as well. Everything in GUI says "cache" when it comes to appdata and its contents.

I still have "exclusive shares" set to "no". And I didn't really get the explanation in the GUI. Could you elaborate on the differences between yes and no, especially considering I set the secondary storage for appdata to "none"?
