Script "Clear array drive" appears to be to fast for "Clearing while updating Parity takes a VERY long time!"

Featured Replies

Hi,

one of my drives is giving read errors and I want to remove it from the array. I used unbalaced to move all data from the drive to an other drive. Now that it is empty, I created the "clear-me" folder, started the "clear array drive" script and was leaving to get a coffee but the script already finished:

Except of the "error writing ... no space left" I don`t see any other error messages.

I am confused because it says 8.4MB copied for a 3TB drive.

It says "Because the drive is now unmountable, the array should be stopped," but the drive is still mountable and I can access it without problems.

It dos not feel right. Can someone help me?

What version of Unraid are you using?    That script needs changing before it will work correctly with current releases.

There are two issues with the script that I know about on 6.12.13:

  • the device name is of the form /dev/mdXp1 and not /dev/mdX1
  • after finishing the Clear the array does not closedown properly as it cannot unmount the drive just cleared.  I think you need to mount a dummyloopback device in its place to get the array to stop cleanly.

So ... at this moment there is no way to safely remove one drive from an array while keeping parity?

Sorry but removing a drive safely from an array should be a core function. I should not have to follow some 7 years old instructions that someone wrote with the potential to ruin a drive I did not meant to delete because I screwed up 3 "Identify which disk you're removing"

How do I know that these instructions are still valid in 6.12.13? The official (?) FAQ said I should use the "clear array drive" script (again something someone wrote) and that did not work

I wouldn't linked them if they weren't, and if you notice the post was edited to reflect the changes in 6.12.
