November 16, 20241 yr Disk 16 has been slowly growing in it's error count. I have 2 precleared unassigned drives that I could use as a replacement, but I'm not sure of the correct way to replace the drive. Do I just stop the array and assign one of the unassigned drives to the slot current used by Disk 16? Or just yank out Disk 16 and then use an unassigned drive when I reboot the array? Disk 16 is still being used and has not been disabled. Diagnostics are attached. Thank you for the help! tower-diagnostics-20241116-1853.zip
November 17, 20241 yr Community Expert correct you stop the array and replace the bad disk with the new. at arrary start it may ask to format/parity check let it due it. It is best practice to stop dockers / vms and let the disk format/parity beofre using dockers/vms see: https://docs.unraid.net/legacy/FAQ/replacing-a-data-drive/

November 17, 20241 yr Community Expert Apologies I should have been more clear. yes, if this is a d1, d2 etc the data needs backed up and copied to the disk I usual do what i orginaly said as i have backups, and usualy use unasigend after the new disk is ready in the array to copy the data back from the old disk to the new. if data on the disk that went bad is not backed up replacing the disk can cause a data wipe. review the docs on how to replace a disk array examples: Edited November 17, 20241 yr by bmartino1
