Super slow disk zeroing

Featured Replies

Hi,

Currently I am trying to wipe my drive so I can send it in for an RMA because of the relocated sector count and current pending sector. I'm using the UD Preclear plugin to do this. I am using the "Erase and Clear Disk" option to do this. Erasing the disk was fine and finished at a normal speed however when I got to the Clearing step, the disk has slowed to a crawl at 1-2mb speeds. I checked the log and there's a ton of errors. I have attached the log. Is this because the disk is dying? Is it ok to send in the disk as is after only being able to erase?

Ok so I tried restarting and the drive wasn't even detected. So then I connected the HD to the SATA connection on the Mobo (was connected to LSI card before) and it was detected this time around. Resumed my preclear and it started off shakey but a lot faster than before (around 30-60MB). But now its sitting steady at 250~MB! Hopefully it holds and I can be done with this drive.

Since the disk is failing, it will be normal that it doesn't perform as it should, unless you have state secrets on the disk, just send it as it to RMA.
