Intel RES2SV240 in PCIe x1 Slot AND Powered by Molex

Featured Replies

I have an Intel RES2SV240 on it's way to be to paired up with an LSI 9300-8i. The Intel RES2SV240's manual states it can be powered by PCIe x4 or Molex. I don't have a free PCIe x4 slot, but I do have a PCIe x1 Slot with a x16 connector that I will never use. Since it will fit and look clean, can I use this slot AND provide power via Molex?

@Jonathan Metts The Molex might not be needed. Whether the PCI-e slot is a x16, x4 or x1 data connection, it should provide the same power supply.

Correct, you can use one or the other.

That's great news! The manual specifies x4, but I thought I saw a post somewhere suggesting x1 is fine for just power.
