Storage/HTPC hybrid configuration

Featured Replies

Hello there,

time has come for me to build a fault tolerant storage for my movie collection. I'd like to ask if following scenario is possible with unRaid based server:

1) Have unraid system system booted from USB when doing all the writes to the storage.

2) Have the very same hardware with Windows OS booted from SSD drive and the unRaid drives mounted in read-only mode. Windows can mount reiserFS, right? unRaid is still using raiserFS, right? Is there a plan to switch to another filesystem in the future?

I do not suggest trying this.  If is probably possible... but not recommended.

Build the unRAID server, and buy an AMD fusion based HTPC.  Much more simple and safe for the data.

This will work with drives as read-only under windows. But you lose the read failure protection of unRAID.
