Can't find or access unraid server on local network.

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm running unraid 6.12.13 as a fairly new unraid user so sorry if anything goes over my head a little! I've recently setup a server using an old machine and can access the unraid OS through the connect application with no issues, during initial setup I couldn't access the server through the IPV4 address or the tower.local or anything similar, I deleted the config file to to make sure it was running at default values and the assigned IPV4 address matches other connections on my network so appears to be configured correctly. I tried changing http/https which didn't work either on any other machines (including mobile) so I ended up having to setup the server through the OS GUI on the server itself. Now when trying to access the server through my second machine (windows 10) I can't find or connect to the share drive at all, I've changed the gpedit.msc settings to accept guest logons etc, changed network sharing settings to make sure everything is allowed and nothing is potentially blocking the connection.

My phone appears to try and connect to the server through the web but is infinitely loading and then eventually times out, when I try and connect via the windows 10 machine it pops up with "Your Internet access is blocked, Firewall or antivirus software may have blocked the connection." From looking at my windows defender configuration and antivirus I don't see anything that should be blocking the connection and the fact even my phone won't connect makes me believe this isn't the cause either.

So far the methods I've tried to resolve the issue makes me believe at least it’s an issue with either how unraid is setup or network configuration. For reference the server is plugged into a UDM pro which detects the unraid server with no issues and also my secondary machine which is plugged into the neighbouring ethernet port. I'm kind of at a loss as to where to go from here currently as nothing I've googled or found on other forums with similar issues has worked, for reference I'll link some of the forums I've gone through and tried having attempted near to every resolution in each of these posts. I've also attached a diagnostics file in case anyone can spot something simple I may have missed. Otherwise hoping someone might be able to identify the issue.

A new install should work out of the box, without any changes, at least to access the GUI, just in case there's already a config problem, try booting with a new USB using a stock install, no key needed, and see if you can access the GUI, if still not, there's likely an external issue.

I did have an issue with the initial boot drive creation so had to create a manual install on the USB to get unraid working as it wouldn’t recognise the stick so had to format the drive to FAT32 following the manual install instructions. When I first booted I still couldn’t access the tower through the assigned IP and tower address on any other machines but can try a fresh install this evening to see if that remedies anything

You have to be able to get to the WebGUI (using web browser like Chrome, Firefox, Edge)  first as you have to do certain setups to be able to save and access files.

Just tried a fresh install on another USB and unfortunately still cannot access the WebGUI at all but can still access unraid connect with no issues

Most likely you have some an issue with your network config/setup.

Also have now tried plugging the sever directly into the network modem not even the UDM and still encounter the same problem

Do you have another PC you could use to boot the flash drive, a laptop will do, that can confirm if the server itself is the issue, or the LAN

Have booted from another computer and still encounter the same issue

  • Community Expert

That confirms it's an issue with your network, or the clients.

Try simplifying the network as much as possible, connect the server and a PC directly to the router.

Tried that last night and when the server is attached directly to the modem it doesn’t produce any form of ipv4 address, tried deleting the network.cfg and still no luck when it’s setup in that configuration

Not a modem, it's needs to be connected to a router, with a DHCP server, the modem can be connected to the router.

@awrightphotomedia,You are not using the 'Guest' feature on your router, are you?

  • Author

Sorry for the confusion meant router, and don’t believe I am. For reference it’s a BT home hub and using the far left Ethernet port on the back

Okay, I’ve managed to get it to produce an ipv4 when plugged directly into the router now which appeared to be a faulty patch cable however can only access the GUI from my phone not windows 10 machine which still just says your internet access is blocked

What is your IPv4 address on that Windows 10 machine?

Marking as solved as network configuration issue which has now been fixed
