Unraid server: Random loss of USB boot device

Featured Replies

Hello-

I'm running into the following issue....started a couple of days ago. I became aware that my Unraid server is offline. I reboot, but I get an error message stating that a boot device cannot be found. I'll go into the BIOS on my machine, and notice that the USB device is no longer available as a boot option. If I unplug the USB flash drive, and plug it back in, and reboot, it appears again. I need to set my BIOS to boot to the USB device, and I can get Unraid and the array re-started.

No hardware changes were made and the machine has been running in this configuration since I deployed it back in August 2019.

Here's the USB flash drive that I'm using:

SanDisk Cruzer Fit 32 GB x2 = 64GB USB Flash Drive SDCZ33-032G-B35-2PK

Any hints on how I can troubleshoot this issue?

Thanks.

Try using a different USB port, if it keeps happening, replace the flash drive.

Thanks for the reply. I have moved the flash drive to a different USB port and the same thing happened about a day later. I've got a new flash drive on order.

Do I risk trying to copy the old flash drive to the new one or is their an alternate process?

Thanks.

Create the new one using the USB tool and then restore only the config folder from the current one, next you will need to transfer the license.

Sorry for the late reply. I followed JorgeB's recommendation. Everything went pretty smoothly, and I'm currently at 21 days uptime. Thanks.
