6.12.13 - Pool disks Mirror only?

Featured Replies

I have an 3TB NVR specific disk in its own "pool" for Frigate. I Would like to expand it, and add another 3TB, or a 4TB or 6TB NVR disk. Is there a way to use them in a way where they are combined into one disk, or is it only possible for multiple discs in a pool to mirror each other?

Basically By addined another disc, I'd like the storage to be 3TB + the space of the second HDD. Is that possible?

For btrfs pools, the default for pools is raid1, you can change the raid level after initialisation in the pool settings under balance.
I don't know how similar this process is for ZFS, as I've not got any ZFS pools setup yet.

To expand and answer your question more directly, you'll want the convert to raid0 mode to combine storage.
You'll get a performance improvement, but be aware if one disk fails, data on both will be gone.

It's possible to expand the pool if it's btrfs, then convert to raid0 if both devices have the same capacity, or single if they don't, if it's zfs, it's not possible to expand using the GUI, you would need to recreate the pool with both devices using stripe profile.

Thank you so much! Such a simple solution I feel stupid now asking. I had no idea that option was there, I've always been to afraid to touch any option that I don't know what it does.
