Moving Docker to another SSD/Array temporarily

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have 2 SSDs (Kingston SV300) that are coming up to 10 years old (or just over 10 years old, cant exactly remember when it was bought) that is in a BTRFS Raid 1 that has my docker files on it. Since they're now around the age of potential failure I have a feeling that I'll need to replace them soon, thus I want to be prepared for the process of getting my dockers back up and running.

My docker paths are default (/mnt/user/appdata, and /mnt/user/system), and the current pool name is named "Cache", however I'll probably rename it to "Docker" if I do need to replace the drives.

Am I able to just set the storage to use the Array/another SSD, replace the drives, and reset the storage to the new pool, and the containers won't notice the difference?

I also use the AppData Backup plugin (albeit never tested for recovery).

/mnt/user includes all disks and pools so if that is the path specified the files will be found whether on the array or some pool.

If you have free ports you could setup the new pool while keeping the old pool and just copy or move the contents. You could do that with Dynamix File Manager, or mover in Unraid v7 can move between pools.

Or mover can move to the array then move to the new pool.

Whatever method, you must disable Docker in Settings since nothing can move open files.

Apologies for the late reply! I'll try this out if/when my SSD drives start experiencing issues.
