January 13, 20251 yr Hey all - after getting my first Unraid server up and running earlier this year, I now have the pleasure of my first 'disk in error state' problem. Server has been up and running for 3+ months (seemingly) without issue, so I'm not sure what it could be. Is this simply a case of rtfm and replacing the drive, or is this something that can be resolved? thegrotto-diagnostics-20250113-1956.zip
January 13, 20251 yr Community Expert Disk dropped offline, so there's no SMART, check/replace cables and post new diags after array start.
January 16, 20251 yr Author Thanks for your response, Jorge - took me a few days to get this done. I rebooted the server, and got an 'array turned good' message. Attached are the diagnostics and smart report for the drive in question. A SMART short self test completed without error. Does it make sense to rebuild with this drive, or better to replace with something bigger & newer? thegrotto-smart-20250116-1524.zip thegrotto-diagnostics-20250116-1528.zip
January 16, 20251 yr Community Expert Solution SMART looks good, I would replace the cables to rule that out and, and since the emulated disk is mounting and assuming contents look correct, just rebuild on top.

My not be relevant but passing a SMART short test is not very indicative of a drive being healthy (although definitely a problem if it fails). You need to run the extended SMART test to get a good indication of drive health.
