Is it safe to delete non-existant shares' xxx.cfg from `/boot/config/shares`

Featured Replies

Hi

I recently found couple of xxx.cfg in `/boot/config/shares` that are from my previously deleted (from GUI) Shares.

Is it safe to delete them from this folder as well?

(It's not causing any functional issues AFAIK, but I'd like to keep it clean)

Yes.   In fact it makes interpreting any diagnostics easier so recommended.

Thanks for confirming.

It's strange that it's never alerted to me. I stumbled on it by looking at the latest version's CA Mover Tuner's logs.

Maybe worth adding this check to Fix Common Problems plugin

Problem is that it is not actually wrong - more of a housekeeping issue.   Adding it to FCP is likely to worry people into thinking they have a problem when they do not.

Got it. Thanks for explaining.

seems it’s intended to store all created shared, deleted or not.

I’m curious, (and I have backups) what would happen if I delete a existing share’s cfg while array is up and system is running? Is it immediately catastrophic?

Must admit I have not tried it, but I doubt if it is catastrophic.  Would just expect it to be recreated once Unraid noticed but with default settings (which may well not be what you want).

You can also use the "Clean Up" button, it will delete the cfg for any shares that don't exist on the array or pools:

That’s good to know! Although My Clean Up is greyed out.
Why? Do I need to stop the array or something?

That means there are no files to clean up :)
