Unraid Move and Some Security Attacks Questions

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I am looking for some information on the best way to go about moving to new server. I am still awaiting parts to be delivered but once they do I plan on building the second server and then was hoping it would be an easy move to shift all my containers etc over to the new server. Would it be a big job? I currently have some containers like Immich, Adguard Home, NextCloud, NGINX Proxy Manager and a few other databases for the relevant containers. Is it a case of setting everything as scratch on the new server and then taking a backup from the current one? Any help would be appreciated. I will be moving from a dell Poweredge server with old hardware to a nice new fresh build in the Jonesboro N4 case.

Second question is regarding some attacks I can see on my UniFi network, All directed at my Unraid server. See Pic attached. I know they are getting blocked but I am curios on what they are and if it is because I use NGINX Proxy.

I assume you are transferring the drives to the new server.

If no RAID controllers are involved in old or new server, Unraid should just recognize your disk assignments and all of your configuration including dockers will be there when you boot from the same flash drive you are using.

Sorry I should have mentioned that it will be all new drives and SSD’s for cache and no raid controllers

That makes it a bigger job since all data would have to be copied before enabling docker.

You would only need appdata to get your dockers going again, but I assume some would be expecting to find other data from your shares.

Yeah I was thinking that the app data folders would get the containers back up and running but then I would manually need to move the like of my Immich photos etc?

while building the new server I will be using 8 6tb drives plus some ssds for cache, I was thinking of going with zfs this time as all drives will be the same size. Would that cause any issues?

Also note that Previous Apps requires the templates that were created on flash when you installed them before.

All of your configuration is in the config folder on flash. If you don't have that you will really be starting over. If you do keep your config then you can delete config/super.dat and config/pools folder and it will make you assign your new disks.

I will be transferring the flash drive with my license over to the new server so I should be good with that side of things.

thanks for your help, now I’ll just wait for the parts to arrive

Disks in the Unraid parity array are independent regardless of filesystem. They can be same or different size as long as no data drive is not larger than any parity drive.

Unraid V7 allows you to not use the array at all if you want, and only use pools. A multi-disk pool has to be btrfs or zfs, and disks in the same pool are not independent. Various configurations of btrfs or zfs multi-disk pools are supported.

I still use xfs in my array, and have switched to zfs mirrors for my 2 pools that have 2 disks each. One is for caching and the other for docker/VM related shares.

Your appdata and system shares have files on the array.

Also looks like a lot of unused .cfg files in config/shares with similar names. Possibly you accidentally created a lot of shares by writing folders directly to the top level of disks or pools.

I didn't notice any suspicious IPs in syslog.

I recommend not enabling Docker and VM Manager in Settings until all disks and pools are assigned and all data loaded to them.

Thanks Again
