How to detect and delete duplicates (from usershare)

Featured Replies

I realized that I have a fair bit of files that exist on two disks, but show up only as one one file on the usershare. Dupeguru does not cover this usecase, so I am looking for help how to fix this.

Let me describe the four issues I am facing:

Issue #1

/disk1/movies/movie1/movie1.mkv

/disk2/movies/movie1/movie1.mkv [100% identical]

Issue #2

/disk1/movies/movie1/movie1.mkv

/disk2/movies/movie1/post.jpg [metadata for movie1 ended up on disk2]

Issue #3

/disk1/movies/movie1/movie1.mkv

/disk2/movies/movie1/ [empty folder]

Issue #4

/disk1/movies/movie1/movie1.mkv

/disk2/movies/movie1/movie1.mkv [0kb file]

Thanks for any thoughts and pointers.

Might if you enable disk shares.

I recommend not sharing disks except perhaps temporarily. You can lose data if you try to mix disks and user shares while moving or copying.

Thanks. The first link doesn't address my issue?

Aware of the issues with diskshares and this is what probably led to my duplicates above (and the corrupt 0kb files). I just need to clean it up and then disable the diskshares.

Dupeguru may be the way to try it out?

Split level keeps files that belong together on the same disk.

It won't change what has already happened, but it can keep some of it from happening in future.

Yup, I will do so going forward and just fully move to usershares, which should address this.

However, I still need to fix the "mess" that I have right now. In terms of duplicates, empty folders, splits, etc. Wondering whether dupeguru, unballanced, or something else will be what can help me remove the duplicates.

I don't use that docker, but it looks like you might be able to change the mapping for /storage to /mnt instead of /mnt/user. Then in the application exclude everything except the disks you are interested in.
