Raplacing a data disk. Is rebooting allowed in the process?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am replacing a data disk using the procedure in the manual (https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/manual/storage-management/#replacing-a-disk-to-increase-capacity).

Is one allowed to shutdown the system and physically replace the old disk with a new one between stopping the array and assigning the new disk to the array?

From the manual:

Quote
  • Stop the array.
    • At this point the array is in the same state as it would be if the drive you have stopped using had failed instead of being unassigned as part of the upgrade process.

--> Is server shutdown OK here after the above action and before the action below?

  • Assign the (larger) replacement drive to the slot previously used for the drive you are upgrading.

Yes.

What the manual is trying to say is at this point you proceed as if the disk had failed.  in such a case shutting down the system to replace a failed drive is likely to be your only option.
