OwnTone is a media server that lets you play audio sources such as local files, Spotify, pipe input or internet radio to AirPlay 1 and 2 receivers, Chromecast receivers, Roku Soundbridge, a browser or the server’s own sound system. Or you can listen to your music via any client that supports mp3 streaming.

You control the server via a web interface, Apple Remote, an Android remote (e.g. Retune), an MPD client, json API or DACP.

OwnTone also serves local files via the Digital Audio Access Protocol (DAAP) to iTunes (Windows), Apple Music (macOS) and Rhythmbox (Linux), and via the Roku Server Protocol (RSP) to Roku devices.

OwnTone was previously called forked-daapd, which again was a rewrite of mt-daapd (Firefly Media Server).

Host/br0 networking is required for use with hardware playback devices.

Just a note to say Thank You!  I was trying to get owntone to work after it split from daapd, but couldn't see my way past some strange errors.  (I am mostly a hardware guy, so playing around with docker settings is a little outside my comfort zone.)
So I just reinstalled from Community Applications having seen your post, pointed it at my library, and it just works!
Both I and my aging Roku SoundBridge players are very grateful.

Heh, that's precisely what made me look for a container I could use with it after finding one for cheap :D

Nice!

I run an M1001 (display upgraded to 32x256) and also an M2000 (firmware upgraded to that in the M1001 for better Chinese character support).  It's still a great solution despite being almost 20 years old. They also work with regular DLNA servers, but I find the Daapd/OwnTone gives a better user experience in general.

Found me an R1000 for $5... PSU died like it seems it does in all of them and was already removed by the previous owner. Sub is rattly so probably dead too, so I removed the whole back and made a little plate for a DC inlet. Works nicely otherwise :)
