April 6, 20251 yr Community Expert The drive isn't mounted I assume and if dd wrote many zeros to it, then it no longer has a valid filesystem to mount anyway. So nothing except perhaps dd can write to it.

April 9, 20251 yr Author Solution For future reference, I had to do an unclean shutdown, cancel the parity check then use the unsafe shrink array method. It seems the Unraid docs are out of date as the dd shrink array method is not reliable enough to use in practice.
