Disk read errors

Featured Replies

Received notification of disk read errors in the middle of a parity check. I am running an extended smart test on the drive now, but that is going to take a bit. From what I can tell from the syslog its a bunch of bad sectors, but hoping to get another pair of eyes on this. Thanks in advance.

It's logged as a disk problem, and that disk failed a SMART test before.

Thanks for that info! I'm just going to go ahead and order a new drive. I didnt notice that the disk failed a SMART test before. Just for my knowledge, where in the logs do I find that info?

This section from the SMART report:

SMART Extended Self-test Log Version: 1 (1 sectors)
Num  Test_Description    Status                  Remaining  LifeTime(hours)  LBA_of_first_error
# 1  Short offline       Completed without error       00%     31106         -
# 2  Short offline       Completed without error       00%     30938         -
# 3  Extended offline    Completed: read failure       80%     30821         2271186264
# 4  Short offline       Completed without error       00%     30770         -

If passed the last short tests, but failed the extended.
