All containers missing after OS upgrade - retrieve old template file?

Featured Replies

Wonder if someone can help me, please?

Since updating the OS, all containers are missing. Like a fool, I went and installed 4 fresh, then remembered the feature of 'Previous Apps' I think what has happened it's replaced the old template with a new one since I installed some apps new, and now lost old config data.

Plex & Open VPN are two - the Open VPN one especially had quite a bit of config in there. Is there any way to retrieve it do you know?

Strangely the PLEX app sees the old server name, but says it is unavailable and rety the connection.

Novice here just starting out with Unraid, so I have very limited experience, sorry.

Thanks

Do you have a recent flash backup?

The templates are in config/plugins/dockerMan/templates-user

Thanks for the response. I don't hvae a backup, unless Unraid auto generates anything?

Yeah, those templates have been written over, so there's no config.

Strangely though, I just test on another app, installed via 'previous app' and that too is missing all the config data. Like a fresh install. Something weird is happpening.

I've tried recreating the docker as well - no joy.

Yup. Reinstalling (not from Previous Apps) would overwrite the template.

Depending upon your upgrade path on the OS, and how long the templates were installed, if you look in /config/plugins/dockerMan/templates-user there may be a backup of the file (my-NameOfContainer.bak). That backup however would have been from updating the OS and it adjusted a particular setting on the templates and created a backup before it made the change.

Deleting the existing .xml file and renaming that backup's extension to be .xml instead of .bak would give you the version at the time of that template adjustment.

YMMV -> Backup would only exist if the template was originally created prior to where the .xml specification changed slightly and the OS adjusted it when it installed the OS update

Thanks Squid for the note. Sadly, there are no .bak files there.

I think its going to be a case of starting again. It's wiped every config, even paths - Lesson learnt re backups!

Need for flash backup goes far beyond just those templates.

All of your configuration (all settings from the webUI) is in the config folder on flash. This includes your disk assignments and license.

Unraid Connect plugin will keep a backup of your flash in Unraid Cloud.

Appdata Backup plugin also has a feature to backup flash, but note that storing your flash backup on your server means you need to boot your server to get the backup you need to boot your server.

You can always download a zipped flash backup at MAIN - Boot Device - flash - FLASH BACKUP.

Any time you make significant changes in the webUI you should make sure it is backed up. This is especially important if you make any changes to disk assignments.
