Split level not working on 7.1.2

Featured Replies

I am new to Unraid have been running the system for a few weeks and decided to setup split level after I had tv shows spread around 3 different disk wanted to be more efficient and have all tv series on a single disk so I setup split level 3.

My share is data and setup in this way

Data/media/tv shows/ tv series/season/epiosde.mp4

When the mover ran after setting up split levels I noticed episodes are being put on the disk with the incorrect disk and is using the high water method instead of split level. I have confirmed the tv show didn’t exist before the mover ran since it was a brand new empty disk. Is there a possible issue with mover in 7.1.2?

You are not going to be able to achieve the level of control you want with those settings.

I think you misunderstand quite how these settings work. Allocation method and Split Level are independent criteria for selecting a drive - and only in the event of contention does Split Level tale priority. The settings you have described allow the first thee levels (Data/media/tv shows) to exist on any drive that is part of the share, and only levels below that are constrained by the Split level setting so 'TV Series' level is constrained to the drive where a particular series is first created.

To get the sort of control you want over TV Shows placement a possible 'fudge' is to set the Split Level to 2 and manually create the next level on the drives you want to allow it to use. However these would require consistent manual intervention to create the folders for each sub-set of data/media so not ideal. Alternatively you could have TV Shows as a share in its own right and then you have complete control.

I realized I mistyped and meant to say the tv series was showing on different disk. I noticed episodes from a few tv series were put on the new disk instead of the disk it was supposed to be on. I rebooted the system and re ran mover and it seems to work correctly this time. Is it a requirement to reboot in order to change split levels and for it to apply properly?

It shouldn't be.
