June 10, 20251 yr Hi all. I've been working for several hours now trying to figure out why the Unraid USB Creator won't make a bootable image. Maybe I'm wrong and it IS bootable, but I can't see it. I used the tool several times and my old PC never sees a bootable drive. It does see the USB drive, but says "no OS." But I know this PC should work as I can load Debian, Ubuntu, etc. with no problems.I also tried writing the Unraid 7.1.3 image with Rufus and Etcher but both complained that the Unraid image (I downloaded it twice to be sure it wasn't corrupted) was missing a partition and would not be bootable. They were right. I have yet to fix this problem and it's upsetting. Any help would be appreciated. I just want to be able to boot the USB drive. Thanks.
June 10, 20251 yr Author I also meant to mention that the aforementioned tools never complain about non-bootable images or missing partitions when writing those other Linux distros. Thanks for the help.
June 10, 20251 yr Author Update: I finally got it to work using the Creator tool. I don't know what changed but it worked. I think the help page might be out of date.
June 11, 20251 yr Any idea if you did anything different to get the Creator tool to work? Tried redoing the creator tool twice now. But I'm still getting the "no OS" error trying to boot a brand new USB drive with Unraid 7.1.3 onto an old i7-2600k system. Bios recognizes the USB drive and a couple other HDDs I have plugged in. I've played around with the bios settings a bunch per the help instructions and I either get a cursor just blinking forever or the "no OS" message depending on the USB settings in bios.
June 11, 20251 yr Community Expert If the tool is not working for you, you can always use the manual method:https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/getting-started/manual-install-method/
February 3Feb 3 Found my way here when having a similar issue with the creator. What fixed it for me was, when creating the USB, do not use a USB Hub, plug it directly in to the back\front of the PC you are running creator on.
