June 30, 20251 yr I've been having this issue for a while now, seems to have started after I upgraded to Unraid 7 and it took me a while to realise that it is only occurring when I view the Unraid GUI.Basically the server completely crashes while I'm viewing the Unraid GUI. Doesn't seem to matter what page I am on, I've been on the Dashboard, Docker, VMs, various different Settings pages and the server will crash. I've been unable to figure out exactly what is causing it. I've started it in safe mode and uninstalled all the Plugins that I thought might be causing it. Updated my motherboard BIOS, updated NVIDIA drivers, replaced the USB drive and updated to the latest version of Unraid (7.1.4) and still having the issue. The server will remain up for many weeks as long as I don't try to view the GUI, but as soon as I need to do something via the GUI it will randomly crash. Every time I do something with it now I try to do it quickly and then close the browser tab so the server doesn't crash and generally just try not to open the GUI at all anymore and do everything I can via SSH.The logs don't show me anything because it just dies so quickly, the only way I've managed to even figure out anything is by having the logs up on screen when it has crashed and this is what it shows:Jun 29 16:13:18 Tower kernal: xhci_hcd 0000:16:00.4: Controller not ready at resume -19 Jun 29 16:13:18 Tower kernal: xhci_hcd 0000:16:00.4: PCI post-resume error -19 Jun 29 16:13:18 Tower kernal: xhci_hcd 0000:16:00.4: HC died; cleaning upAs far as I can tell 0000:16:00.4 is one of the motherboards USB controllers with nothing plugged into it. But I'm not really sure how this is related to viewing the GUI as the machine will run for weeks as long as I don't view the GUI and it's only while viewing the GUI that it will crash. Everything else seems to be working fine other than that and as I've said I've uninstalled almost every plugin that I don't need.I've attached diagnostics, but I'm not sure if there will be anything relevant in there. I've even seen it crash before the array starts so I don't think it's related to any of the containers or VMs I'm running either although I've stopped all the VM's for now. tower-diagnostics-20250630-1041.zip
June 30, 20251 yr Community Expert Try booting with a new flash drive using a stock config, no key needed, then retest to confirm if it's a config issue.
July 2, 20251 yr Author It seems like the problem has resolved since I removed the Unassigned Devices, Unassigned Devices Plus, Unassigned Devices Preclear and Unbalance plugins. I had left them installed as they are useful plugins, but in an attempt to really make sure I removed every plugin I absolutely didn't need I decided to remove them as well. Since then I haven't had any issues, so I think it's safe to say that the issue is related to them. I don't really even need those plugins so I'll be keeping them removed for now, but if I get time I'll see if I can figure out which plugin specifically was causing the issue.
July 4, 20251 yr I'm having exactly this issue. It has been driving me mad since I first installed 7.x. Based on the above, I've uninstalled Unbalance as I don't ever use it. I have occasional use for the Unassigned Devices plugins though so will leave them enabled for now. If I encounter the issue again, I'll post about it here.@Harb I'd appreciate it if you could post again if you encounter any further issues. I'm really not a fan of having to physically power off my server, so am keen to get to the bottom of this issue.
July 4, 20251 yr Author I've definitely stopped having the issue since I removed those plugins. I really don't think it was the Unbalance one since I didn't even have it enabled just installed, I highly suspect it was one of the Unassigned Devices plugins. I've just installed only the Unassigned Devices plugin again just now, I'll leave it for a few days and see if I start having the issue again and if not I'll install Unassigned Devices Plus and test it for a few days and then repeat for Unassigned Devices Preclear as well.I'm also wondering if just uninstalling and reinstalling all of them might have been enough to resolve it, so might be worth trying that @SirCadian while I test each of them individually and see if I can figure out which plugin it is specifically.
July 5, 20251 yr OK, cool. I'll also re-install the unassigned devices plugins. See how it goes. I'll keep you posted.
July 15, 2025Jul 15 Author Ok, it's been a while now and I haven't had any more issues, I've re-installed all of the unassigned devices plugins and had them running for a week or so now and am not having any more issues. I haven't re-installed Unbalance yet as I have no need for it. So either the issue was Unbalance (which seems weird since I had it disabled in the interface anyway) or the re-install of the unassigned devices plugins did the trick.@SirCadian I'd be curious if you had any luck with re-installing as well?
July 24, 2025Jul 24 @Harb Sorry for the tardy response, I've had a busy couple of weeks.I removed Unbalanced and did a re-install of Unassigned Devices. Happily I'm in the same boat as you and have had no issues since then. I didn't really use Unbalanced anyway, it was more of a just-in-case plugin, so I've not re-installed that. I believe there's functionality in the mover now that can move the contents of a disk to other disks in the array, so I'll stick with the official tool in the event I need that capability.I think it seems to be fixed but I'll need a longer test period before I'm fully confident. Prior to this issue I was seeing uptimes measured in months, not weeks. I only really had to bounce the server for upgrades. I'll keep reporting back.As an aside, I also started tracking RAM consumption over time in the event that the issue was some kind of memory leak. I grab the stats from the homepage at the same time every day. Nothing much to see, big jump in docker usage is a new Ark Server I deployed for my kid (which Studio Wildcard borked with an update a couple of days later and I had to manually rollback) otherwise the dockers/vms are stable with no other changes. There's slight creep in system memory usage but nothing concerning. I'll keep logging the stats just for interest's sake.
August 15, 2025Aug 15 Still no issues here. It's looking like the issue was either something to do with the Unbalanced plugin being installed (I didn't use it at any point) or possibly the Unassigned Devices plugin which I re-installed. Either way, I'm happily sitting at 41 days uptime and counting.
