Turning on Secure Boot in WIN 11 VM

Featured Replies

I have been researching this to no avail the last few days.

My problem: I have a Windows 11 VM setup using OVMF TPM, using Q35 machine. Everything works perfectly and I haven't had any issues, but a few games I'm trying to play and games in the future seem to require Secure Boot turned ON, not just compatible. I'm wondering if this is even possible based on the fact you can't even boot Unraid with Secure Boot turned on in BIOS. I stumbled upon THIS thread about injecting Microsoft keys to turn Secure Boot on, but it is 3 years old and seems complex...curious if there is a better solution.

Thank you!

not that im aware off, the better solution would be ...

gamers wouldnt buy such software which more and more are limiting their customers ... which we know wont happen ;)

overall, this is not a Unraid Issue, its the way kvm / qemu virtualizer ... and yes, its complex to run like this, but thats currently the state afaik,

big thanks to @ghost82 for writing this down to at least have a guide here.

also be aware, once you have secure boot running, next will be "VM hypervisor" cat and mouse game ... these games for sure also blocking running your Games on a VM (may thanks to all cheaters out there) as you also saw in the linked thread ...
