Unable to create API Keys

Featured Replies

I'm running Unraid 7.0.0 and Connect 2025.07.30.2047.

I'm unable to successfully create any API keys. If I create one through the terminal, or on the Management Access page, i'm able to go through the process and it looks like it successfully create a key, but if i refresh the page or run unraid-api apikey, the API key that I created disappears, so doesn't seem to properly create and stick.

Are you sure your flash drive is good? Try writing a file on your flash drive and see if you can read it or delete it, sometimes broken drives can cause this when they fail into read only mode.

I was able to create a text file at /boot, and remove it successfully, so it seems to be writeable.

I am meanwhile also very frustrated. I am trying to run the unraid-api commands that are listed by unRAID but the only ones that work are the basic ones such as start, stop, restart etc.

I cannot create an API key or use developer mode etc. as I get a fatal error that the commands do not exist

Please try to use Settings -> Management Access and utilize the GUI to create keys / manage the sandbox. It may work for you and resolve this pain.

I put in my post I tried creating one on the Management Access page.

Reinstalling the plugin seems to be a temporary fix for me. Reinstalling the plugin showed all the API keys I created which wasn't shown before. Still have the issue where creating new API keys don't show, but at least i'm able to use one now.

Every key is read by a file watcher - I wonder if our watch system doesn’t fire reliably on the flash drive. We will continue to investigate!

I know it might be a stupid question... but I really cannot see the option to generate an api key under the settings "management access". Please quickly guide me.

Your Connect plugin is very out of date. Update it and it will show up.

Just to confirm the steps I have to do. I create an API key, if I try to use it, it doesn't work. If I refresh the page, the key disappears. I have to uninstall the plugin, and re-install. The API key then shows up on the management page, and it starts to work. So there's something weird going on. Happy to provide logs/help you narrow down the cause.

Thank you very much! indeed, that helped. Though updating it was not so easy as here in China this requires some extra steps. Was probably still the version before I left
