August 27, 2025Aug 27 Hi everyone, I have my data all in one share and since It was getting full i had to add 2 disks. I would like to use this new disks only for some folders. I have multiple smaller folder (under 1TB), 3 big folder(over 1TB) and the download folder. The smaller folders are fine, but I would like to use the new disks only for the 3 big folders and the download one. Basically this is my configuration:Disk1|_Small folder 1|_Big folder 1|_DownloadDisk2|_Small folder 2|_Big folder 2Disk3|_Small folder 3|_Big folder 3What I want my configuration to be isDisk1|_Small folder 1|_Big folder 1 | _Weddings1 | _ Wife1Disk2|_Small folder 2|_Big folder 2Disk3|_Small folder 3|_Big folder 3Disk4|_ Download|_Big folder 1,2 and 3 | _Weddings2 | _ Wife2Disk5|_ Download|_Big folder 1,2 and 3 | _Weddings3 | _ Wife3Is it possibile to do it?I was thinking to use high-water and with "manual split level". I would have to create folders in disk 4 and 5 but then I think it should split it like I tried to describe right?
August 27, 2025Aug 27 Community Expert Click on the SAHRES tab. Click on the share you want to setup:Modify one of these settings to set things as to where you want all new files to be stored. As I recall, update an existing file will not change its location. You would have to manually move files if you want that.EDIT: thinking about it, exclude might be better than include. That way any new disks added to the array could be used. With include, you have to remember to add the new disk to the setting! Edited August 27, 2025Aug 27 by Frank1940
August 27, 2025Aug 27 Author Thanks for the ansewr! If I exclude disk1,2 and 3 I think it will apply split level and allocation method to "small folders" too right? If possibile I would prefer them to keep all files on the disk I put them.Basically I only want the big folders to be split on disk4,5 while keeping small folders to remain where they are now even if I add new files to them
August 27, 2025Aug 27 Community Expert Apply "include" to those "small" shares. If you want them on a single disk, then set the share to use only that disk. (I am assuming that they are already as you want them.) Then assign 'big' share using the "exclude" parameter.Personally, I would avoid the split level setting if possible. It is very convoluted and difficult to set up correctly. Regardless of which method you use, you do have to keep an eye on what is happening with disk space with using either split level or "include" as these settings can cause disk-full write errors when the disk becomes full.Perhaps I should point out that when using this option, you are applying it to each share individually. If you set do only one share to use only Disk 1 and and you don't apply restrictions on any of the other shares, they are free to use disk 1 to store files!
