May 26, 201214 yr I noticed when I add a user to unraid via the web management interface, it creates a user account on the Linux os. I can then use chown from the Tower Bash shell and assign that user to a file. I don't see a provision for adding user groups via the web admin interface and was wondering if I can just do this from the command line and associate certain users with groups. I can then manage security on files on both a user and group level (as well as everyone). Does this make sense?
May 26, 201214 yr Share security is based on users. Each share allows per user configuration, i.e, r-w, r-o, n-a. What are you trying to accomplish?
May 26, 201214 yr Author I have one BIG share, that's it. I want to assign permissions to individual folders under that share, using both users and user groups (if possible). Example directories under that BIG share: Music, Movies, TV Shows, Books, Photography, etc.. e.g. I want to make some folders read only with a writable DropOff folder.. then I'll just transfer the files with an administrative account. This protects against trojans etc on clients from wiping out my array--or accidental deletes.
May 26, 201214 yr Author You can only assign permissions at the share level nothing under it? That's interesting because I can assign particular files or folders a username i created with the web admin under the console bash shell... with chown command. I'd like to use CHGRP to change the group of the files. And manage user groups in the linox os and use linux os permisions.
