May 26, 201214 yr Had a FreeNAS7 box and then obtained some hardware and decided to build a unRAID box and I *love* what I've seen so far for what I need to do. My frustration however is that I can't get unRAID to detect a WD MyBook (Mac) attached to the system. The system is an IBM ThinkPad T43P w/ P4M 2.0GHz, 2GB RAM. I'm booting off a 2GB Kingston Flash Drive. The WD is brand new/refurbished that just came back from WD. It is recognized on the thinkpad if I boot into Windows but when I fire up unRAID I hear the drive spin up but when I go to assign devices the only thing I see is the laptops internal SSD and a the bootable flash drive. I've installed SNAP but even when I add a record with the serial number on the back of the drive - it's a no go. I've searched but can't find anything similar. Can anyone shed some light for me? Thank you. Version: unRAID Server Basic version: 5.0-rc3 Syslog: http://pastebin.com/W6xXp4ee
May 26, 201214 yr I don't think its a good idea to rely on a sticker for the drive id! Read through the snap thread, there is command that you need to run in order to find the correct drive id

You cannot assign USB drives to an unRAID array. It has always been that way. Only SATA or IDE drives can be a part of the protected array. They are the only ones you'll see in the drop-down-list. To see the disks detected by the OS, even if not able to be assigned, you can still use them in SNAP, type ls -l /dev/disk/by-id Joe L.
May 28, 201214 yr Author Thanks Joe. I've been so impressed with unraid that I built a desktop machine today using it. No more DIY NAS using laptops! The policy makes total sense. Thanks again!
