November 3, 2025Nov 3 I am in salvage mode as I'm pretty sure I have no other alternative. I have been a user since the beginning when communication with Tom was a normal occurrence. My array has been in a supermicro 4u server since the beginning and for nearly 20 years I have suffered no data loss. Here is what has happened. I used an improper cable from a different modular power supply which in turn sent 12 volts where 5 volts should have been going.Array consisted of 19 drives total including 2 parity.1 parity is dead7 data drives are deadThey will not spin up, some have burnt ic's some just smell smoked.I will need to work on those bad drives to try and get them back running. What can I do to minimize further loss of data and see just what I have been left with.Unraid is up and running on the remaining 11 drives one of them being a singular parity.Needless to say I'm sick and it's all my fault...Looking for advice. I'm leaning towards using the drives I currently have working as they all still have data on them. I used the plugin to mount and view contents of undamaged drives. is it possible to use these drive and make a new config based on them. That will give me time to try and restore the other drives and maybe move their data back into place one by one. Currently devastated but hopeful. I know that 12 volts went to the drive pcb's instead of the 5 volt. I'm pretty sure the motors run on 12V. I hoping to be able to do some pcb swaps to get the data off the bad drives. Please give me some help.
