November 20, 2025Nov 20 Hi everyone,My Unraid has been running smooth for about 10 years but recently it has thrown errors, not started dockers, etc.I have to admit I totally forgot how I built it. I blindly followed guidelines, got it running and enjoyed. The log is throwing many "GARAGE kernel: md: disk0 read error" errors and one of the disk (disk 5) is disabled/ contents emulated. Can someone take a look at my diagnostics please?many thanks in advance garage-diagnostics-20251120-2225.zip
November 21, 2025Nov 21 Community Expert Solution Both parity and disk5 appear to be failing, which is bad news for your data, run an extended SMART test to confirm, might as well do it on all the other disks, then post new diags.
November 21, 2025Nov 21 Author Thank you Jorge,The array does not respond really well to my actions. For example it does not reboot or even shutdown when I ask it to.Could you let me know how to run the SMART tests? (sorry for the dumb question)Do you think I should verify the cables before running the tests?I have a backup of the whole thing that is not too old, but I would still like to try to retrieve some recent data. I am guessing some of my data is retrievable if it sits in the other 4 drives, correct?I am out this weekend but once back I should be able to run the checks and post the diagnostics. Thanks again for your support.
November 21, 2025Nov 21 Community Expert The GUI should still work fine if you don't start the array, or there may be other issues, but you can run the tests from the CLIsmartctl -t long /dev/sdXThen post new new diags
November 24, 2025Nov 24 Author Hi there,Here is what I see now for my drives. Parity drive is shown as missing. I am guessing it is dead, or should I try something? (should I mingle with the cables?)Also, I cannot get SMART tests to start on any of the parity and disk 5.Here is the diagnostic file. (I ran a SMART check on disk 1)garage-diagnostics-20251124-2136.zip

December 5, 2025Dec 5 Author Thank you for the support. My parity and another disk are both dead. Thankfully most of my data should be fine (backed up).I will rebuild unraid and come back stronger.
