Need Help – Multiple Disabled/Undetected Drives, Array Won’t Start, Any Recovery Options?

Featured Replies

Hi all, long story short, I think I’ve completely screwed things up.

I had 4 drives in my Unraid box, and one of them had been disabled for a while with everything being emulated. I always meant to fix it, but since I mostly use this box for media, I just kept putting it off. I guess I waited too long.

Now another drive isn’t being detected at all, and the array won’t start.
So I’m guessing at this point things are beyond getting the array back up normally.

My question is – is there any way to recover whatever data is still on the drives?
Any help or pointers would be really appreciated.

Swap both cables from the drive that is missing with a different one, if it stil doesn't show up, it likely failed, and in that case you can recover the data from the remaining good disks only by doing a new config.

Thanks for the reply.

What do you mean by “new config”? Would like to understand that a bit more.
Right now I have one parity, one working data drive, and an SSD cache. I can add one or two new drives if rebuilding the array is an option, but I’m guessing that would wipe everything?

I was actually thinking of trying to pull whatever I can from the individual drives first, but if there’s a better way to approach this, I’m open to it.

At this point I’ve got nothing to lose, so I’m willing to try anything that might help recover some data.

Tools - New config, it allows you to start the array with only the remaining devices, but as mentioned, data from the missing and the emulated disks would be lost.
