January 21Jan 21 Is it just me or could everyone use a lil UNRAID in their life ?But they likely won't know about it.What percent of Americans even know what NAS stands for ?Define "plug and play"I see "Best Buy" UNRAID as directly plugging into a person's modem/router. Then going to a browser and being interviewed as to the functions you want. "Backing up files", "shared drive", "media server" as 3 major categories. After the interview is over, UNRAID deploys what it needs, and base functionality is ready to go.Or is this just a fantasy ?Maybe for +$50 you get one hour of one on one tech support (live person to person) and 2 hours of AI help (or whatever units AI help is sold in). And Best Buy could try to sell you "Nerds on Site" help for a fee. There are alot of people who would benefit from UNRAID and aren't price conscious. Edited January 21Jan 21 by digitaldoctor
January 21Jan 21 Unraid is a Server system... and a server is NOT a desk lamp which gets switched ON/OFF or a kitchen device...Its a complex IT-System.You know, what a Cat is? What you want is a Cat, which is doing all you tell - on command... but the real life is different.Cats are doing NEVER EVER, what you want! 🤣If you want it "simpel", buy a blender 🤣 Edited January 21Jan 21 by Zonediver

January 21Jan 21 Author Just now, trurl said:What percent of Americans even know how to access other computers on their network? Will drop to zero as Windows wants your PC to be an AI controlled dumb terminal. They will eventually drop SAMBA shares. They recently dropped SAMBA 1.1

February 24Feb 24 The thought of a Best-buy NORMIE trying to wrap their heads around the concept of Unraid, let alone booting it and doing anything (at all) without SERIOUS hand-holding is enough to melt my brain.A lot of people out there will have the capability to do it. But the convincing they'll need, to believe it, is an almost insurmountable obstacle in and of itself. Then there are the other 90% who would have NO CLUE.Do you even know how many people out there can't change a light switch or a ceiling lamp? Or how many people don't know you can copy / paste using CTRL-C and V? That's like 95% of computer users.Brings me to a side-quest (point). A lot of people worried about AI. No need to worry. If you already know something, you can effectively use AI. If you don't, good luck. Those people aren't going to be able to use AI to replace anyone else. If you don't already know how to program, TRUST ME, you're not going to accomplish anything useful no matter how much AI you try to use to replace your lack of knowledge. February 25Feb 25 There are already a number of turnkey-like NAS solutions on the market - Synology, QNAP, Asustor, and many more. Already configured, plug them in and go. But you are in a walled garden environment - You can do what they allow you to do, with the things they give you.Unraid is an operating system designed around NAS activities, with virtual machines and Docker containerization support. A completely different product, in a completely different market. When Limetech first started, they were building servers for sale. Quickly decided that wasn't where they wanted to be. In 2026, the absolutely worst place to be is in the consumer computer hardware market.
