Silverstone RM43-320-RS Can't find hard drives when connected to SAS and HBA or even SATA

Featured Replies

Hello!

My head hurts... So here is the issue and I have troubleshooted all I can....

Here is my hardware:

Server: RM43-320-RS

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z890 AORUS Master

SAS Expander: ADAPTEC 2283400-R AEC-82885T

HBA: Dell H310 flashed with LSI 9211-8i P20 IT Mode

When I connect the SFF-8643 cables to the SAS expander nothing shows up in Unraid. I think from my troubleshooting, there is an issue from the backplane on the RM43, to the SAS expander. Because I got a SFF-8643 cable to SATA connection and that didn't work either. Then I just used a SATA to SATA connection to the Motherboard and the harddrive showed up in the BIOS and Unraid.... I'm so damn confused! I've tried multiple cables and nothing works...

Any help is VERY WELCOME! :-)

Two more troubleshoot you should perform

  1. Check does expander detect on 9211, they are connect through 8087-8643 cable.

  2. Connect 9211 directly to backplane to confirm both are work.

Those are good suggestions. you can also post the diagnostics to confirm if the expander is being detected.

I did a bunch more plugging and testing yesterday... I took your advice and plugged the the HBA straight into the back plan and the 2 drives I have set up to test showed up! So right now I'm assuming the SAS Expander was bad? I tried to hook a molex cable and tried the pcie slot but neither worked. I get the new one next week and if it is the same I'll throw in the diagnostics. :)
