Is there a way to pre-check a USB drive is eligible for unraid?

Featured Replies

So to be clear, I already have a working unraid server.

I understand that the operating system runs in RAM and doesn't particularly strain the USB drive it boots from, but i would still like to have a backup on hand in case it fails. When setting up unraid initially, I had a pretty difficult time getting a USB drive it would accept. I would like to to know for sure I have a drive that unraid will accept so I don't have to go a some period of ordering a drive, having it not work, ordering a new one, etc

So is there a way to know a USB drive will work ahead of time? Or would I not know until I actually try to transfer my license?

Any flash drive with a unique GUID should work; you can boot with it and try to start a trial. If it works for that, it will also work for a paid license.

The Creator will flag your drive if it thinks there's a problem with its GUID.

Don't order anything until you know what to look for.

Check the guide in this section:

If you're in a hurry, get this: eBay item number 326046070546

Yes but there's much more to it.

The guide will explain.
