Advise on relplacing a disbled drive

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm getting read error in "Disk 1" and "Disk 2" got disabled.

While copying some data from the array, the server suddenly shutdown (2 times)

I would appreciate your suggestion wither I should rebuild the same disabled disk again (Disk 2), or replace it with a new drive. The replacement will be a 18TB as I don't have a spare 8TB.

The first diagnostics is directly after booting up the server after the unclean shutdown (20260514), and the second one is recent (20260516).

Thank you in advance.

This suggests a hardware issue; recommend addressing this first.

Read errors on disk1 are logged as a disk problem; run an extended SMART test.

Thanks JorgeB.

The extended SMART test had read failure. It didn't pass the 30% (Attached)

That disk needs to get replaced as well. Since you have dual parity, you can replace both at the same time, or if you don't have a spare, rebuild disk2 first, then replace disk1.

Does Disk 2 has any signs of failing that required replacement? Or rebuilding the same disk is enough?

Thanks.
