Extending a 6bay Unraid via USB?

Featured Replies

I am thinking of installing Unraid on a TerraMaster F6-424 Max. However I want to create a BTRFS array with more than 6 spinning disks. Can I connect USB drives (via the USB3.2 ports) and integrate them in my array?

You "can" but USB is not recommended for array or pool devices, USB has a tendency to drop devices and is bad at error handling in general.

Good to know, so it would be better to use a drive connected via USB as their own standalone volumes, right?

Can they still be proptected via the parity disk?

No. "Parity disk" implies that it is part of an Array. Pools and Array require an error free connection to all disks, something that can't be guaranteed by USB connected drives.

Not sure what you mean; USB is not recommended for array or pools, it can be OK with unsigned devices for temporary use, though some users use them in the array or pools without major issues, it can depend on the USB bridge used.
