Quality of Community apps

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I just wanted to check in here since I am seeing a lot of community apps lately that are generally AI slop with an almost empty GIT repo:

  • Commits barely in the double digits

  • No stars or forks

  • Issues stacking up and barely being closed

  • Repo only exists for about a week (some even just 1 day)

I checked the contribution guidelines for community apps, and it states contributors also need to maintain the things they publish, but I see little to no action taken when they do not.

In general, I would like to see these things being stopped BEFORE they reach community apps, since it brings down the general quality of it.

How do others feel about this? Am I the only one checking these apps before installing them?

Agree with this sentiment. Generally I have had trust in the Unraid community apps, especially when there is active development on the git repos, issues being resolved etc. The Unraid docs does mention the moderation of community apps with a caution: "The Community Applications team provides basic vetting and moderation, but it's important to review documentation and support resources for each application before installation." I guess I would like to know more about the Community Applications team. Who are they and should they be increased in size to allow better vetting of submitted community applications? Also since you mention AI slop, it might make sense to have a policy regarding use of AI generated code.

They vet the templates for submission but not the actual software you’re about to install from the templates.

Now plugins yes those are more/less scrutinized since those run directly on the host system and could have far more reaching effects.
